No, Mary Didn't Save the Repentant Thief on the Cross.

Hi! In this blog, I am going to share with you my encounter with a Catholic on 2024 who claims that Dismas, the repentant thief, was saved because Mary, the mother of Jesus, was interceding for him.

My first reaction after I read his post was like, “What is this Christian talking about?”

Deep inside, I feel that there is a need for me to ask him about his belief. So I asked him, “Is there a scripture to support your claim that Mary was praying to Dismas that is why he was saved?” He answered, “It is not wrong to assume that Mary was interceding to Dismas.”

Look. Saying "this is how I feel" doesn't mean it's a fact. We have to be able to separate our emotions from reality. Feelings are valid, but they're not always accurate reflections of what's actually happening.

Let us see what the Bible is telling us about the salvation of Dismas. In Luke 23:39-43, “And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us. But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss. And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise”

According to the Gospel of Luke, before Dismas physically died, he rebuked the other thief, the unrepentant thief, for insulting our Lord Jesus, Dismas acknowledged his sins and sooner, accepted Jesus Christ in his life. That is why he was saved and was granted by Lord Jesus to enter Paradise. And not because Mary, the mother of Jesus, was praying for him.

It was written in the Bible that Mary, the mother of Jesus, is just a simple human being and a descendant of Judah that was chosen by Yahweh for special purposes which is to conceive the Son of God who is Jesus Christ, to save his people, the Israelites, along with other people. That’s it! Mary, the mother of Jesus, is not even mentioned in the divine Trinity nor the Bible tells us to acknowledge Mary the same way we acknowledge the divine Trinity.

The problem with many Christians today is they always looking for something that's not even written in the Bible. They prioritize the book written by their priests or pastors, and not the word of God which is the Bible. That is why they are biblical illiterate. And when you try to share the truth from the Bible, they're the ones who get mad at you. What's worse, they start quoting verses that have nothing to do with the topic or the context just to prove their point.
